Unity is considered to be a Christian Movement, though we are not considered “mainstream Christianity,” since we are a mystical tradition. The focus is on metaphor, symbol, and meaning that is relevant today, rather than literal interpretations of scripture and other theology.
Another way Unity differs from “mainstream Christianity” is in the teachings of Jesus. We see him as our “Way Shower,” one who walked the spiritual path and became enlightened. He said that we can do what he did and even greater things; therefore, it is our destiny to awaken as he did and his teachings instruct us accordingly.
Jesus was the historical man and Christ is the consciousness that he attained. We do not have to accept him as Lord and Savior to be “saved. That is NOT a part of the Unity teachings. Rather, as we are awakened to the Christ, the Divine Presence within, we are “saved” from error thought and false belief. We are awakened to the Truth.
Unity welcomes all people, and is aligned with the wisdom traditions in all faiths.
